Andrew D. Cohen

Andrew D. Cohen, Chair of the MA in ESL Program and Director of the Undergraduate ESL Minor at the University of Minnesota, has been strategizing about foreign language learning from his first (Latin) to his eleventh (Japanese). He was a Peace Corps Volunteer in rural development with the Aymara Indians on the High Plains of Bolivia, taught for many years at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Fulbright scholar for a year in Brazil, and a Visiting Professor at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He was Secretary General of AILA, and recipient of the Scholar of the College award at the University of Minnesota and of the 2006 AAAL Distinguished Scholarship and Service Award.

He has published four books on language learner strategies, as well as volumes on bilingual education and language assessment, along with numerous research articles on language teaching, language learning, language testing, and research methods.
