Lori Howard is an ESL consultant, teacher-trainer, and author. She began teaching ESL in Mexico during a college course and found it was her passion. After her undergraduate education she received a TESL Certificate from UCLA and a Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Pepperdine University.
Lori has 30 years of experience in teaching, teacher training, and administering ESL programs. She has also taught courses for instructors at UCLA and UC Berkeley Education Extension including Vocational ESL, Creating an Environment for Learning, and Cross-cultural Awareness.
Lori was ESL Content Specialist for the Staff Development Institute and a teacher trainer and consultant for the ESL Teacher Institute. Both projects were sponsored by the California Department of Education (CDE) to provide training to ESL teachers across California. She also participated in the statewide curriculum committee that developed the English-as-a-Second-Language Model Standards for Adult Education Programs (1992) for California.
Lori is currently an EL Civics Program Specialist for the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS), which is contracted by the CDE to provide technical assistance to California agencies which are working with the EL Civics Grant. She is co-author of Learning English ( Delta, Inc) , a companion text to the Learning English video series, for which she was one of the video instructors. Her Oxford University Press publications include two ESL reading series Read All About It and Read and Reflect.
