James O'Driscoll has a BA from the University of Cambridge, an RSA Dip TEFL, an MA from the University of Essex, and a PhD from the University of Gent, Belgium.

After eight years' teaching EFL in Greece, he held teaching posts in Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain. From 1988-2005 he conducted research and taught linguistics and British culture at the English Department of Gent University in Belgium. Since 2007, he has been Senior Lecturer in English at the University of Huddersfied, UK.

James is the author of Britain published by Oxford University Press. He has also given guest lectures in Canada, the Netherlands, France, Hungary, Portugal, and Finland, and written weekly articles on developments in Britain for a Flemish magazine.
