The Oxford Collocations Dictionary helps students produce more natural sounding English. The dictionary improves students' accuracy by showing them the words that work together in both British and American English. Using the dictionary develops a better awareness of which words combine and how, helping students express their ideas naturally and convincingly.

Accordingly, the dictionary is an essential tool for improving students' writing, and is highly recommended for students preparing for the Cambridge ESOL First Certificate or Proficiency Exam, IELTS, or studying other subjects in English which require writing in English e.g. reports for a science subject, economics.

How to use The Oxford Collocations Dictionary
  • Students look up a word to find the words which are commonly used with it, i.e. its collocations.
  • The collocations are listed with the word and are grouped by part of speech (e.g. all the verbs that collocate with the entry are listed together).
  • If students are unfamiliar with a word they can tap it and get a pop-up definition and its pronunciation.
  • Students can create their own list of words and add the words to those, or they can add them to the 17 pre-loaded topic lists, such as business, which they can edit.
