Overview

E is for Explore: Exploring English through the 4 skills
Younger learners often measure their progress by the number of words they know, but it is by developing their skills that we enable them to build their confidence in using what they know, and interact with the world around them in a more meaningful way. In this workshop, by trying out practical activities, we will look at how we can encourage and engage our primary learners by encountering, exploring and exploiting language via the four skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Inspiring your learners
The greatest challenge that many teachers face today is to inspire their pupils to learn. Why do pupils often come to school reluctant to take responsibility for their own learning? Is it the content which might be alien to them? Is it our teaching method, testing or assessment? How can we create authentic and engaging learning experiences? Maybe we just need to give them sense of purpose and satisfaction, inspiration instead of information, some freedom of choice and include a bit of mystery and more team work.

Harnessing curiosity in the language classroom
Curiosity is a natural human reaction - curiosity is about wanting to know more. And wanting to know more is the key to genuine learning. So curiosity is a powerful tool in life and in the classroom. In this talk we will look at simple ways we can arouse and harness our pupil's curiosity in the language classroom, helping children to engage with the activities, make connections and become better language learners.
