Grades 1 and 2: A Love of Reading Poster

Create a Love of Reading poster. Include a word and a picture from the book for each letter of the phrase. Draw a picture and write the word for it. The words can be characters, events, objects, etc.

Check List for a successful project

  • Mention the title of the book, the author, the book series
  • There are 14 letters in the phrase. Make sure you draw a picture and write a word for each.
  • The pictures and words should match.

Useful Tips

  • You may draw the pictures or cut from newpapers and magazines.
  • Words can include characters, events, objects, etc.

Grades 3 and 4: Photo Album

Make a picture photo album. Each picture must have a description of a scene from the book. You may draw the pictures, use pictures from newpapers and magazines or even take actual pictures that are related to the scenes in the book!

  • Draw four pictures of different scenes from the story in order or put family photos of the characters. 
  • Write a caption for each picture. The captions and the photos should match.
  • Briefly describe the photos. The text in the whole album should be minimum 50 and maximum 100 words in total.

Grades 5 and 6: Book Jacket

Design a book jacket for the book you read. You should have a title, author, illustration, synopsis of the book (in your own words), information about the author, and anything else important about the book. Look at a real book jacket so you know you have included everything.

  • Front cover should include an illustration.
  • Front cover should include the title of the book, the name of the author.
  • Back cover should include the synopsis of the book. The text should be 75-100 words.

Grades 7 and 8: Movie Poster

Pretend that your book is being made into a movie. Create a movie poster for your book. Who will play the characters in the book? Write the names of the actors and the director on the poster along with the title of the book, a catchy slogan, illustrations, movie critics' reviews. Look at real movie posters on the Internet to get ideas.

  • Include a catchy slogan and at least two critics' reviews. Whole text maximum 100 words.
  • Draw your own pictures or cut from newspapers and magazines.

Grade 9: Comic Strips

Create a comic strip of a scene from the book with 9 sections and some dialogue (spoken parts). 
For non-fiction books, instead of dialogues, you may write short summaries of specific parts you think are important for each section of the comic strip.

  • Mention the title of the book, the author, the book series.
  • Explain why you chose this scene. This introduction should be  40-50 words.
  • Your project needs to have 9 sections and some dialogues of a scene from the book.
  • Make sure you use at least 100 words in total.

Useful Tips

  • You may draw the pictures, use pictures from newpapers and magazines or even take actual pictures that are related to the scenes in the book!
  • You can rewrite the dialogue or even write a dialogue that didn’t appear in the book. Make sure you stay in the context.

Grades 10, 11 and 12: Newspaper

Where does the story in your book take place? How would newspapers look in this place? Create a newspaper from this place and include articles based on events that occur in the novel, the weather of the town where the story is set, games (word search, crossword puzzle), or anything else you feel is important.

Check-list for a successful project

  • Mention the title of the book, the author, the book series.
  • Your newspaper needs to have a name and a date. 
  • Your newspaper needs a major story. Include a headline for the story and write the article. The text should be 150-200 words. 
  • You need to have 2 minor stories. Include headlines for the minor stories and write the articles. Each article should be 50-60 words. Make sure you add pictures relevant to all your news articles!
